    Don Burnes is the original founder of the Burnes Center on Poverty and Homelessness at the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver, and he is currently the Chair of its Board of Advisers.  Don is also a Scholar-in-Residence and an Adjunct Professor at the School.  A local philanthropist concerned with the issues of homelessness and housing, he serves on the State Interagency Advisory Group on Homelessness for Governor Hickenlooper and served in a similar position for Governor Bill Ritter. He was a member of Denver’s Road Home Commission and the Colorado Housing and Homelessness Funders Collaborative.  He has served on the Adams County Blue Ribbon Commission to End Homelessness; he has chaired the Evaluation Committee of Denver’s Road Home and been on the Board of Directors of the Metro Denver Homeless Initiative.  He has been part of the decade long process of conceptualizing, implementing, and evaluating Denver’s 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness.

    Don has also been an executive director for various nonprofits, a historian, a researcher and educational policy consultant for the US Congress, a prolific writer, a philanthropic consultant, and active in the faith-based policy community around issues of homelessness and poverty.  He is the co-author (Alice Baum), of A Nation in Denial: The Truth About Homelessness; is the senior co-editor and co-author of a more recent book, Ending Homelessness:  Why We Haven’t, How We Can; and an author of numerous articles about homelessness.  He received his BA from Princeton, his MAT from Washington University in St. Louis, and his PhD in education from Columbia University.

April  23 – Melissa Roberts – Director of Adult Parole – Ms. Roberts has an extensive background in law enforcement and corrections and brings 18 years of correctional experience to the position. Ms. Roberts has a keen interest and focus on the successful re-entry of offenders and has provided Colorado with momentum to incorporate the most cutting edge re-entry solutions.


  • Combined CURE/AFC Meeting in Colorado Springs Meetings

    Advocates For Change (AFC) participates in the combined CURE/AFC meeting on 2nd Tuesday evening  of every other month from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. – see flyer for details

The monthly meeting of the Southern sub-chapter of Colorado CURE will be held  at the ComCor Facility located at 3615 Roberts Road in Colorado Springs.
