Our Presenter will be Whitney Leeds, an immigration and criminal defense attorney who is passionate about the rights of immigrants, refugees, and people accused of crimes.
While in law school, she created an informal, statewide coalition of groups organizing against mass incarceration, and through that work met the Reverend Tammy Garrett-Williams, with whom she eventually helped to found Above Waters Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to shed light on the dark places inside Colorado’s halfway house system, Community Corrections. She currently sits on the board of Above Waters Project and is also a member of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, the National Immigration Project, and the National Lawyers Guild. Previously she interned with the Colorado State Public Defender, the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network (RMIAN), and the Center for Constitutional Rights as an Ella Baker Intern. Whitney is a volunteer attorney mentor with RMIAN, and she trains Legal Observers for the Colorado Rapid Response Network, which organizes teams that respond to ICE raids throughout Colorado and Wyoming.
Please join us for what is sure to be an informative presentation and opportunity for relevant discussion.
